Welcome to the website of WITA, the Wentworth Institute of Technology Alliance, or the Wentworth Alliance.  WITA is a group for GLBTQ (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning) students and their allies.  WITA was started up in September of 2005.  Meetings are held once a week with a topic of discussion related to the GLBTQ population at each meeting.  Each semester we put on a "movie showcase", which are bi-weekly GLBTQ related movies.  At the following meeting, a discussion of the movie takes place.  Each year WITA sends a group of students to the Tuft's Safe Colleges Conference, which takes place in April.  WITA is also involved in the "gay? fine by me" t-shirt project, where we give away the shirts to the Wentworth community free of charge in support of its GLBTQ students and their allies.

Meetings are every Monday at 6:30pm in the Faculty/Staff Lounge in Beatty.

The following statements are from students who attended our very first WITA meeting.  The question being answered is, "Why did you come to today's meeting?":

"I want to have a group where other people like me get together whether to hang out, or for support."

"I'm here because I would like to see a strong network of people who identify as GLBT and also those that identify as allies.  I think that this will help the school to be a more comfortable environment."

"To get to know GLBT students on campus and serve as a resource and source of support."

"I want to see a 'safe space' support created for those who are questioning their sexuality, but in a social way."

"To make people comfortable on campus and making ourselves available to people that need to talk about anything."

"I am very passionate about equality, and I try to take a stand whenever I am able."

"To follow on a path to a positive and fulfilling life.  Celebrate and unite GLBT students and allies into one support and social network."

"I want us to have fun once a month, just to hang out.  I also want us to make others feel comfortable with their sexuality at WIT."

"I am here because I like this group and I feel comfortable here."

"Because I want to see a place created where people feel comfortable about who they are."

"I want to build a stronger GLBT community at WIT."

"To march in the pride parade."

"I came here today because today was our meeting day."
